TakeAYear doesn't slot you into pre-packaged programs. We help you design a custom gap year—then coach you through executing it. Our front-loaded model means intensive work upfront, then you take the wheel.
Ideally, start planning 6-12 months before your gap year
The Discovery and Design phases are intensive—6 weeks of deep work. After that, many experiences (internships, visas, programs) require lead time to arrange. Starting early means more options and better outcomes.
That said, we can work with tighter timelines. Minimum lead time is 3 months before your gap year begins.

Deep-dive sessions to understand who you are, what you care about, and what questions you need your gap year to answer. We use structured assessments and conversations to map your values, interests, and goals.

Design
HIGH INTENSITY4 weeks
We build your complete 12-month plan together. Every experience block includes backup options (Plan B and C), so you're never stuck if something falls through. This is the core deliverable.

Execute
LOW INTENSITYYour gap year
You take the lead. We're here for monthly check-ins and async support when you need it, but this is your year to own. The heavy lifting is done—now it's about execution and adjustment.

Transition
MEDIUM INTENSITYFinal month
As your gap year wraps up, we help you position what you've done. Resume refresh, story coaching, and preparing for whatever comes next—college, work, or continued exploration.

Backup plans are a core deliverable
Gap years involve uncertainty. Visas get denied. Internships fall through. Programs get cancelled. We build contingencies into every part of your plan.
Every major experience in your 12-month plan comes with a Plan B and Plan C. If something doesn't work out, you already know your next move—no scrambling, no panic.
