Our Services

TakeAYear provides gap year coaching and planning services. We help students design structured gap year plans, provide coaching through the Discovery and Design phases, and offer ongoing support during execution. Our services are advisory in nature—we provide guidance and support, but students and families are responsible for all final decisions regarding gap year experiences.

Eligibility

Our services are designed for students typically 17 years of age and older, often with parental or guardian involvement. If you are under 18, we require parental or guardian consent to participate in our coaching programs.

Booking and Payment

By booking our services, you agree to:

Provide accurate and complete information
Pay the agreed-upon fees for services
Attend scheduled coaching sessions or provide reasonable notice for rescheduling

Payment terms and refund policies will be communicated at the time of booking. Strategy calls are free and carry no obligation.

What We Do and Don't Do

We Do:

Provide personalized coaching to help students discover their interests and goals
Help design customized gap year plans with backup options
Offer guidance on potential experiences, programs, and opportunities
Provide accountability and support during the gap year
Help with resume positioning and story coaching for what comes next

We Don't:

Guarantee admission to any program, job, or experience
Book travel, accommodations, or program registrations on your behalf
Take responsibility for experiences during the gap year
Provide legal, financial, medical, or visa/immigration advice
Serve as an emergency contact or guardian during the gap year

Student and Family Responsibilities

Students and families are responsible for:

All decisions regarding gap year experiences and activities
Researching and verifying any programs, employers, or opportunities
Obtaining necessary visas, permits, insurance, and travel documentation
Health, safety, and well-being during the gap year
All costs associated with gap year experiences (separate from coaching fees)
Active participation in the coaching process

Limitation of Liability

TakeAYear provides coaching and advisory services only. We are not liable for any outcomes, experiences, or incidents that occur during your gap year. Our role is to help you plan—execution and all associated risks are your responsibility. To the fullest extent permitted by law, TakeAYear shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of our services.

Intellectual Property

All content on our website, including text, graphics, logos, and materials we provide during coaching, is owned by TakeAYear and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission. However, any plans created during your coaching engagement are yours to keep and use.

Confidentiality

We treat information shared during coaching sessions as confidential. We will not share your personal information or coaching details with third parties without your consent, except as required by law or as described in our Privacy Policy.

Termination

Either party may terminate the coaching relationship at any time. Refund terms for any prepaid services will be determined on a case-by-case basis and communicated at the time of booking.

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated terms on this page. Your continued use of our services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles.
